ST. PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team ran its win streak to five with a 3-0 sweep of Bethel University on Friday night at the Robertson Center. The Blugolds comfortably won the first two sets and stayed strong in the third to win a fifth consecutive match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (16-6) defeated the Royals 25-15, 25-10, 25-22.
- UW-Eau Claire's attack was locked in, registering a .286 hitting percentage compared to .065 for Bethel.
- Kaitlyn Erickson (Fr. - Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) set a career high with 31 digs, bettering her previous best mark of 25.
- Ella Kiebel (Jr. - Maple Lake, Minn.) had more than 30 assists for the fifth straight match, passing 40 of them on Friday. Bailey Leeke (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./North) finished with double figure kills for the fifth match in a row, hitting a team-high 14 of them against Bethel.
- A 7-2 run midway through the opening set helped UW-Eau Claire break things open, putting the Blugolds ahead 18-10. Mya Cinnamo (So. - Rosemount, Minn.) hit kills for three of the Blugolds' final four points in the set to close things out.
- UW-Eau Claire won 10 consecutive points in the second set in a straightforward victory to make the match 2-0.
- Bethel led 21-19 in the third set, but the Blugolds outscored them 6-1 the rest of the way to close out the match. Lili Hagg (So. - Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) hit back-to-back kills to start that spurt.

UW-Eau Claire will look to keep its momentum going when it hosts a triangular at the McPhee Center on October 26. The Blugolds will host Alumni Day during their 2 p.m. matchup with UW-Stout, and will close out the day with a 6 p.m. match against St. Olaf.
