EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team blanked UW-River Falls 2-0 on Wednesday at Simpson Field to earn its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory of the season. The win gave the Blugolds three key points in the WIAC standings, moving them up to third place with three conference matches remaining.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (5-6-4, 1-0-3) scored twice in the second half to remain unbeaten in the WIAC, earning their first win after three draws to start league play.
- Molly Henderson (Sr. - Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) scored the opener in the 48th minute. She controlled a ball into the box from Haley Von Rentzell (Jr. - Chanhassen, Minn.) and knocked it past the keeper to put UW-Eau Claire ahead 1-0.
- Emma Donovan (So. - Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) sealed the victory with a strike in the 82nd minute. Elise Pinewski (Sr. - Anoka, Minn.) swung a corner kick in from the left side, and Donovan met it with her head and turned it into the net to make it a 2-0 game.
- Bella Jones (So. - Neenah, Wis.) and Kennedy Boll (Sr. - Franklin, Wis.) teamed up in goal for a shutout. Each keeper played 45 minutes and made two saves apiece.
- The Blugolds outshot the Falcons 13-8 and held a 7-4 advantage in shots on target.
- It was the fourth consecutive win for UW-Eau Claire in its series against UW-River Falls.
