EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team tied UW-Platteville 2-2 on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds overturned an early deficit to take a 2-1 lead, but the Pioneers scored the equalizer in the final 15 minutes to salvage a tie.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Platteville got out to an early lead, scoring in the seventh minute to go ahead 1-0. The Blugolds had an answer though, with Emma Donovan (So. - Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) leveling the score with a goal of her own in the 18th minute. Donovan collected a loose ball in the middle of the box and knocked it into the net for her second goal of the season.
- The two sides entered halftime tied at 1, but Sophie Hubbard (Sr. - De Pere, Wis.) put the Blugolds ahead in the 61st minute with a magnificent long-range strike. She collected a pass from Elise Pinewski (Sr. - Anoka, Minn.) — who earned the assist — as she entered the attacking third, and rocketed the go-ahead goal into the top left corner from 10 yards outside the penalty box.
- The Blugolds worked hard defensively to see out the victory, but the Pioneers converted a cross into the box into the tying goal in the 75th minute.
- UW-Eau Claire held an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Kennedy Boll (Sr. - Franklin, Wis.) made three saves in net and Bella Jones (So. - Neenah, Wis.) added one save. Both played one half of the contest.
- UW-Eau Claire moved to 4-6-4 this season and 0-0-3 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.
- The Blugolds celebrated Parents Day prior to the game.
