OSHKOSH, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams got their seasons off to a strong start on Saturday, sweeping UW-Oshkosh in a pair of duals. The men defeated the Titans 184-50, while the women prevailed 166-77.
Both the men and the women will look to defend their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) titles this year. The women have won back-to-back league crowns.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Molly Hosack (Jr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) won a pair of individual events for the women. She swept the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
- Sydney McGuine (Sr. - Huntley, Ill.), Amber Winter (So. - Merrill, Wis.) and Kiara Bissen (Sr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) all scored a pair of wins. All three were part of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team along with Faith Oswald (Fr. - Eau Claire, Wis.). McGuine also won the 50-yard freestyle, Winter won the 200-yard IM, and Bissen placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Madeleine Hammond (Jr. - Sheboygan Falls, Wis.), Grace Schnabl (Jr. - New Berlin, Wis./Brookfield Central), Molly Sheehan (Sr. - Austin, Minn.) and Olivia Richetto (Sr. - Wausau, Wis./East) was also victorious. Several Blugold individuals also picked up single wins for the women.
- On the men's side, Kadin Denner (Sr. - Aurora, Colo.) and Blake Wallen (So. - Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) both won a pair of individual events. Denner claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Wallen swept the diving competitions on the one- and three-meter boards.
- Ben Keller (Sr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) was part of the first-place 200-yard medley relay and also won the 100-yard butterfly. Jack Gunderson (So. - Milwaukee, Wis./Whitefish Bay) won the 200-yard IM and was also part of the 200 medley relay win. Ian Olson (Sr. - Chippewa Falls, Wis.) was part of two relay wins, helping the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams place first.
- Henry Williams (Fr. - Hartford, Wis.) and Rafael DaCosta (Sr. - Blair, Wis./Blair-Taylor) were also part of the 200 medley relay win. Evan Schroeder (Sr. - Shakopee, Minn.) and Ryan Lahey (Sr. - Waunakee, Wis.) helped the 200 freestyle relay win. Many Blugolds won single individual events to help the men win the dual.

The Blugold men and women are back on the road on Friday, October 25, with a visit to UW-Stevens Point. The duals begin at 6 p.m. at UWSP Aquatics Center.
