Blugolds tie Warhawks in WIAC opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team tied UW-Whitewater 0-0 in its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener on Saturday at Simpson Field.

Neither side could break through the other's defense, resulting in each team walking away with one point for the conference standings. The Blugolds saw shots strike the crossbar on a couple of occasions, but couldn't get a fortunate deflection off the pipe.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Boll (Jr. – Franklin, Wis.) and the Blugolds defense kept the Warhawks at bay. Boll stopped nine shots, which was a season high for the goalkeeper. That included a dangerous attempt in the final 10 seconds to preserve the tie.

UW-Eau Claire put one shot on target compared to nine for the Warhawks. The Blugolds controlled 61% of the possession.

The Blugolds continue WIAC play with a home game against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Kickoff is 4 p.m. at Simpson Field.
