MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer hit the road on Saturday and traveled East to Madison, Wis. for a matchup against Edgewood College. The Blugolds scored early and often in the first half to earn themselves a 5-1 victory.
Nathan Donovan (Jr. – Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) continued to keep his stellar form on the season as he wasted no time finding the game's first tally in the 3
rd minute of play to make it 1-0 in favor of UWEC.
Carter Thiesfeld (Jr. – Forest Lake, Minn.) received the lone assist on the opening goal as the Blugold offense began to warm up. Just 15 minutes later, Donovan recorded his second goal of the afternoon off an Edgewood turnover to extend the Eau Claire lead. Thiesfeld and
Will Miers (Jr. – Columbus, Minn./Centennial) were credited with assists on Donovan's second goal of the contest.
The Blugolds kept hungry in the first half as
Nathan Donovan earned his hat trick with a header past the Edgewood goalkeeper in the 26
th minute.
Telvin Vah (Gr. – Moorhead, Minn.) earned the lone assist as the Blugolds kept rolling.
Noah Malcook (Fr. – Fitchburg, Wis./Oregon) held a penalty kick opportunity minutes later and put home his own rebound to extend the lead to 4-0. Two minutes later, Malcook redeemed himself with a second PK opportunity and rifled the ball into the back of the net to make it 5-0.
Edgewood college answered back late in the first half with their lone goal of the afternoon in the 41
st minute. Both sides evened things out for the remainder of the game as neither side found the back of the net again until the final whistle.
Mark Belknap (Jr. – Anoka, Minn.) earned the victory over Edgewood during his 45 minutes of play. Belknap is now 2-0-2 on the season.
Josh Bates (Jr. – Mahtomedi, Minn.) stopped the two shots he faced in the second half to keep the Eagles scoreless in the second half.
The Blugolds (5-1-2) will return home on Tuesday, September 26
th to host Simpson College. Kickoff from Simpson Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
