WHEATON, Ill. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Wheaton College at the Bob Baptista Invitational on Saturday. The Blugolds scored a pair of go-ahead goals, but the Thunder had an answer each time to ensure each side walked away without a defeat.
UW-Eau Claire got on the board first thanks to a strike from
Kori Millis (Jr. - Shakopee, Minn.). She took a pass from
Megan Hansen (Sr. - Andover, Minn./Anoka).at the edge of the box and sent a curving shot past the Wheaton goalkeeper for the game's opening goal in the 15th minute.
Wheaton leveled the score in the 25th minute with a shot from the right side of the penalty area. Neither side struck again in the first half.
Hansen re-established the Blugolds' lead early in the second half. The senior broke free of Wheaton's back line and rifled a long-distance shot just over the Thunder's keeper for a magnificent goal in the 49th minute. However, Wheaton had a final answer, scoring in the 58th minute. It was the final goal of the match and sent each team home with a tie.
The Blugolds out-shot Wheaton 17-9 and held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Kennedy Boll (Jr. - Franklin, Wis.) made four saves in goal for UW-Eau Claire.
After a few days off, the Blugolds will return to competition on Tuesday, Sept. 5. They host St. Catherine at Simpson Field at 7:30 p.m.
