EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team battled, but ultimately dropped its home opener to St. Catherine (Minn.) 1-0 on Tuesday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds controlled 68% of the possession and outshot their opponents, but couldn't break through on the scoreboard.
The game's only goal was an own goal scored by the Blugolds in the fourth minute, with an unlucky deflection skipping into the back of the net. There were precious few good looks at goal afterward for either side.
UW-Eau Claire registered four shots in the first half and six more after halftime. Four of those shots were on target, but St. Catherine stopped each one of them to preserve its shutout. The Blugolds outshot the Wildcats 10-4 overall and 4-2 in shots on target.
The Blugolds didn't concede any corner kicks defensively and earned three of their own on the other end of the field.
Kennedy Boll (Jr. - Franklin, Wis.) made two saves in goal for UW-Eau Claire.
The Blugolds will look to bounce back when they host St. Benedict (Minn.) on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. They'll also be at home on Sunday, Sept. 10, against St. Norbert.
