EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team notched a 1-0 shutout victory over Wartburg on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds scored early in the second half and held on for their third straight win. It was the program's first-ever win over Wartburg, a program which has qualified for the NCAA Tournament six times over the last 10 years.
The game's only goal came in the 47th minute.
Elise Pinewski (Jr. - Anoka, Minn.) fired in a rocket of a shot from 30 yards out, and the ball skipped into the goal off the crossbar. The strike put UW-Eau Claire ahead 1-0. It was the only offense the Blugolds needed, as defensively they limited Wartburg to three shots on goal.
UW-Eau Claire out-shot Wartburg 12-4 in total shots.
Kennedy Boll (Jr. - Franklin, Wis.) made three saves in net to earn a clean sheet. The Blugolds won the possession battle with 62% of the ball.
The Blugolds are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when they visit St. Olaf. Game time is 4 p.m. It's the team's final road game before a four-game homestand.
