EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer held their home opener on Monday evening as Northland College came to town. UW-Eau Claire controlled the game from the beginning and overwhelmed Northland during the 90 minutes of play, earning them a 7-0 victory.

Will Heinen (Jr. – Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) tallied the game's first goal at the 5:32 mark.
Nathan Donovan (Jr. – Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) and
Will Miers (Jr. – Columbus, Minn./Centennial) were credited with assists. Just nine minutes later, Donovan would find the back of the net himself for his first goal of the evening to extend the Blugold lead.
Telvin Vah (Gr. – Moorhead, Minn.) and
Will Miers received assists on goal. As both teams hit the locker rooms for halftime, UWEC held their 2-0 lead and outshot the Jacks, 16-1.
The second half held a similar storyline as
Telvin Vah wasted no time finding his first tally in a Blugold uniform. The graduate transfer ripped a loose ball at the top of the box into the bottom corner to put Eau Claire up, 3-0. Moments later, another player scored his first goal in a UWEC kit as
Alek Laroi (Fr. – Grayslake, Ill.) beat the Lumberjack keeper from distance to increase the Eau Claire lead to 5-0.
Donovan would add a third goal at the 63:18 mark, and
Owen Williams (So. – Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) would seal the 7-0 victory in the 66
th minute as seven different Blugolds found their way on the scoresheet.
Spencer Banks (Jr. – Superior, Wis.) stopped the lone shot he faced in 64 minutes of play to secure the win. Banks is now 2-1-0 on the year.
Jakob Leonard (Jr. – Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) stopped the only shot he faced during his five minutes of play.
The Blugolds (2-1-2) will be back at home on Saturday, September 16
th when they host Beloit. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
