ST. CLOUD, Minn. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a dual against Division II opponent St. Cloud State on Friday. The Blugolds battled, with the women falling 189-112 and the men falling 203-99.
"I couldn't be prouder of how the team showed up to race a very strong St. Cloud team," Blugolds head coach
Annie Ryder said. "These were not easy races and the team fought hard across the board. The divers did an excellent job as well on both boards. As we finished up the majority of our dual meets and I reflect on the first half of our season I am always amazed at the team's willingness to do the work, race hard for their team and have a little fun while they do it. We had a lot of fun racing a talented team tonight and are better for it. We are looking forward to our mid-season meet coming up in two weeks."
The Blugolds had several individual event winners. For the women,
Elaina Plonis (Jr. - Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) won both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly.
Sydney McCollor (Sr. - St. Paul, Minn./Irondale) and
Kiara Bissen (Jr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) joined Plonis in victory for the Blugolds, capturing the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM, respectively.
For the men,
Kadin Denner (Jr. - Aurora, Colo.) was the winner of the 1,000-yard freestyle and
Zhander Rowley (So. - Janesville, Wis./Parker) captured the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Blugolds will next be in action at the Rochester Invite from Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Rochester, Minn. The competition begins at 10 a.m. each day of the meet.
