Volleyball sweeps Saints on the road

DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's volleyball team was back on their nonconference schedule as they traveled to Duluth, Minn. to faceoff with St. Scholastica. The Blugolds' were consistent all night as they only recorded six attacking errors and hit at a team average of 32.5%. Sophia Brown (Jr. – Colgate, Wis./Germantown) led UWEC with 8 kills and 3 blocking assists as the Blugolds swept the Saints, 3-0.
 
The opening set found Eau Claire with an early 7-2 lead. Mya Cinnamo (Fr. – Rosemount, Minn.) contributed to the 5-0 opening run with two of her seven kills to gain the early UWEC lead. The early lead was built on later in the frame as UWEC strung together two separate runs of four points to increase their lead to 15-6. A St. Scholastica error sealed the 25-13 set win for Eau Claire as they took a 1-0 lead over the Saints.
 
In the second frame, the UWEC attack stayed consistent as five Blugolds found multiple kills with only one Eau Claire attacking error. Five Blugolds also recorded a service ace during the middle frame. UWEC continued to string multiple points together as their lead grew to as large as 12 by the end of the match. Cinnamo collected a pair of kills in the final run by Eau Claire as Sheridan Dettmann (Sr. – Watertown, Wis.) added a service ace to pair with a block by Cinnamo and Dairenne Andre (So. – Lakeville, Minn./Rosemount) to seal the 25-13 set victory.
 
The final set of the night began much closer between the two teams as UW-Eau Claire kept a distance of four point for a majority of the match. At 15-12, Izzy Grace (Fr. – Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) recorded a pair of service aces to help push UWEC to a 20-12 lead. Ella Kiebel (So. – Maple Lake, Minn.) followed suit later in the set with back-to-back aces to ice the Saints as Maren Saunders (Sr. – St. Michael, Minn./STMA) delivered the final blow with her lone kill of the evening to win the set 25-17 for Eau Claire to complete the sweep.
 
The Blugolds (11-10, WIAC 1-3) will return home to the McPhee Center on Friday, October 20th for Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. UW-Eau Claire will host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. as the Blugolds celebrate Senior Day.
