ST. PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team hit the road on Tuesday afternoon for a weekday matchup with Hamline University. UW-Eau Claire dominated play for a majority of the match to earn themselves the 3-0 shutout away from home.
Nathan Donovan (Jr. – Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) got things started in the 16
th minute off a free kick from
Carter Thiesfeld (Jr. – Forest Lake, Minn.) to give UWEC a 1-0 lead. The set piece magic continued for the Blugolds later in the half as
Sam Lynch (Sr. – Verona, Wis.) put home a flick from Donovan on the far post to increase the Eau Claire lead to 2-0.
The Blugolds continued their offensive dominance in the second as they took 25 shots all game.
Noah Malcook (Fr. – Fitchburg, Wis./Oregon) led UWEC with shot attempts and held the team high with shots on goal with
Nathan Donovan with two each. Donovan netted his 17
th goal of the year in the 59
th minute on a shot from outside the 18-yard box that found the bottom left corner. Donovan's multipoint afternoon was his 10
th game of the season as the Blugolds held on to the 3-0 victory.
Spencer Banks (Jr. – Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) stopped both shots on goal he faced to earn his third complete shutout of the season. Banks is now 6-2-0 on the year.
The Blugolds (10-3-2) will host their final home game of the season on Saturday, October 21
st as they face Luther College. Kickoff from Simpson Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Blugolds celebrate Senior Day.
