EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team was back at home on Wednesday as they hosted Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponent, UW-Stout. After taking all three matches in doubles action, the Blugolds went on to complete a 9-0 over the Stout Blue Devils.
Results
At no. 2 doubles, Clare Palen (So. – Rochester, MN/Lourdes) and Samantha Fuchs (Fr. – DeForest, WI) started the day on the right foot with an 8-0 shutout over Mariah Kent (Stout) and Anna Kent (Stout). Lindsey Henderson (Sr. – Prior Lake, MN) and Elaine Franta (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) followed suit with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
Heading into singles play with a 3-0 lead, Eau Claire needed just two more match wins to secure the victory. At no. 3 singles, Samantha Fuchs defeated Mariah Kent (Stout) in 12 straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Morgan Nelson (So. – Beaver Dam, WI) and Clare Palen won their matches 6-0, 6-1 to secure the win for UWEC. In duals and WIAC play, UW-Eau Claire now sits at 1-1 on the season and hold fourth place in the WIAC standings.
The Blugolds will be back on the court on Saturday, October 9th when they host Bethel University and UW-River Falls at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center. First serve against Bethel is set for 9 AM and against UWRF at 3 PM.
