WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season with an exhibition match-up with NCAA Division II Winona State Saturday night. The Blugolds defeated the Warriors 81-76.

The Blugolds were led by Chris Duff (Sr. – Walker, MN) who poured in 31 points after shooting an impressive 11-14 from the field and 7-10 from beyond the arc.

Dan Becken (Sr. – Lino Lakes, MN/ Centennial) followed with 15 points while Sean Miller (So. – Waukesha, WI/Kettle Moraine) and George Diekelman (Sr. – Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) finished with 12 apiece. Montrell Oliver (So. – Naperville, IL/Metea Valley) also chipped in 11. Diekelman had a game-high eight rebounds and six assists.

Eau Claire shot 50.9 percent from the field (29-57) and 36 percent from three (9-25). The Blugolds also shot 82.4 percent from the free throw line (14-17).

The first official game of the season will be on the road as the Blugolds take on St. Norbert College on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
