TAMPA BAY, Florida (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team won a thriller in double-overtime on Monday night, defeating Hobart 83-78 in the Tampa Bay Shootout hosted by DePauw University.

Despite a slow start, the Blugolds rallied in the second half. With 11 lead changes and the score tied seven times, UW-Eau Claire and Hobart battled throughout the second half and overtime periods. The Blugolds prevailed using hot shooting from behind the arc, drilling 15 of 26 (57.7 percent). UWEC was also 29 for 63 (46 percent) from the field.

Jacob Kohner ­(Jr.-Bloomington, MN) led all scorers with 25 points and Tyson Kalien (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) followed with 24. Lewis Mau (Sr.-Colfax, WI) and Kurtis Moody (Jr.-Pequot Lakes, MN) also scored in double figures for the Blugolds, recording 12 and 10 points, respectively. Mau also tallied a game-high 12 rebounds while Eric Effertz (Sr.-Ladysmith, WI) dished out a game-high eight assists.

The Blugolds (4-7, 0-3 WIAC) will take on DePauw in the championship game on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
