EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team split on the final day of its Labor Day Classic in the McPhee Physical Education Center, opening with a 3-0 win before falling later in the day 3-1.

In the early match Eau Claire beat Martin Luther (Minn.) 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) but fell to the College of St. Benedict (Minn.) 3-1 to close the day.

Against Martin Luther, the Blugolds used all 17 of their players and three of them, Amy Bomgren (Sr.-Woodbury, Minn.), Megan Tracy (So.-New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) and Anne Satterlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led the match with eight kills each. As a team, the Blugolds finished with 41 kills to 30 for Martin Luther.

Lauren Sutherland (Jr.-Dayton, Minn./Meadow Creek Christian) completed the match with a team-high eight digs while Emily Neave (Sr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) led the Blugolds with 22 of the team's 37 set assists.

Facing St. Benedict, the Blugolds lost the opening two sets, 25-20 and 25-19, but came back to win the next one 28-26. They dropped the fourth set, however, 25-22 to end a 10-match home winning streak, which was the eighth longest in school history.

The Blugolds actually outhit St. Benedict .196-.187 and had more kills, 54-48.

Leading Eau Claire with 16 kills was Bomgren while Kelly Schuh (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) finished with 14. Neave led the team with 17 digs and 40 set assists.

Following the classic, an All-Tournament team was named. Bomgren and Satterlee were selected to the eight-person group.

Eau Claire is now 3-1 on the season.

The Blugolds will be at Viterbo University in La Crosse on Wednesday for a match beginning at 7 p.m.
