Men's Basketball Hits School-Record 17 Shots from Outside in Loss at Stout

Box Score

MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team drained 17 three-pointers, a school record, but was unable to get past UW-Stout as the Blue Devils won 94-87 in the Blugolds' season finale at Johnson Fieldhouse tonight.

In a game where the lead changed 10 times while it was tied four other times, the Blugolds' three-pointers kept them in the game right up until the end.

The Blugolds (14-11, 6-10 WIAC) found themselves down by 12 early in the second but with just under four minutes to go, Colin Boone hit a three-pointer, breaking a school record of 16 that was set on January 31, 2005 against Wisconsin Luther College, to give the Blugolds a two point lead. However, Stout (15-10, 9-7 WIAC) held Eau Claire scoreless the rest of the way, outscoring the Blugolds 9-0 the rest of the way to win by seven.

Eau Claire attempted 71 shots from the floor, including 35 from beyond the arc, both season-highs, while the 35 attempts was also a school record.

Stout held the advantage down low, pulling down 37 rebounds to the Blugolds' 36 while the Blue Devils also scored 28 points in the paint.

While the Blugolds turned the ball over just 10 times, Stout scored 16 points off the errors as the Blugolds had nine points off six Stout turnovers.

Four Blugolds reached double figures in scoring, with Josh Prince (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) leading the way with a career-high 21 points. Marcus Ruh (Fr.-Green Bay , Wis./Bay Port) had 18 points while Geoff Probst (Sr.-Moose Lake, Minn.) and Amadou Fofana (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./West) each added 16. Probst also led the team with six rebounds.

Colin Boone (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) had six of Eau Claire's 23 assists to lead the team. The 23 assists was the most the Blugolds have compiled in a game this season.

Five players completed their careers as Blugolds today: Boone, Probst, Jordan Kappen (Sr.-Blair, Wis./Blair-Taylor), Jacob Schlub (Sr.-Catawba, Wis./Phillips) and Chance Weisensel (Sr.-Alamogordo, N.M.).

The Blugolds will miss the WIAC Tournament this season for just the second time in the tournament's 12-year history. The only other time the Blugolds did not compete in post-season was during the 2001-02 season.
