Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team bounced back from Friday's tough loss to take all three sets against UW-La Crosse in Saturday's WIAC showdown at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
The Blugolds won a close first set 25-22, but steadily pulled away, taking the second set 25-20 and the third 25-14. Eau Claire was able to record nine team blocks compared to only one from La Crosse.
Rachel Ver Voort (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton) posted eight of the Blugolds' 36 kills in the match. Danielle Lucia (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) added seven, while Liz Amici (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) and Emily Zupon (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) both recorded six. La Crosse's Brianne Stankus had a match-high nine kills.
The Blugolds posted 46 digs in the match, led by Lindsey Smith (Sr.-Maple Lake, Minn.) who added a match-high 20. Meanwhile, Amanda Lessner (Jr.-Watertown, Wis.) and Emily Neave (Fr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tied for a team-high 17 assists.
With the win, the 13th-ranked Blugolds improved to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The team will travel to Wheaton, Ill. on Friday, Sept. 25 for the Wheaton Thunder Invite and a matchup against Lakeland College (Wis.). The match is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. The Blugolds will play a total of four matches at the invite.
