Box Score OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - After losing a close game last night to St. John's, the UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team got back on track with a 91-77 victory over the 18th-ranked University of Puget Sound (Wash.) at the UW-Oshkosh Classic at Kolf Sports Center today.
The Blugolds (4-1) got up early, starting the game with an 11-0 run over the first four minutes. Puget Sound (2-4), which defeated UW-Oshkosh last night 90-87, closed the gap over the next two minutes to just four after a run of its own and the teams later found themselves tied midway through the first half. With just under eight minutes to go in the first, the Loggers took their first and only lead of the contest. The Blugolds then went on to build their lead to 12 at the half.
Eau Claire was too much for the Loggers too handle in the second half and took a 21-point lead at three points in the half, the Blugolds' largest lead of the game. Puget Sound would only be able to close the gap to 13 the rest of the way.
The Blugolds shot an impressive 58.5 percent (31-for-53) from the floor and pulled down 42 rebounds. Puget Sound finished with 26 boards and shot 39.7 percent (23-for-58). Both teams recorded with eight three-pointers.
Two Blugolds picked up double-doubles with Amadou Fofana (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./West) leading the game with 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds before fouling out. Geoff Probst (Sr.-Moose Lake, Minn.) led the game with 11 rebounds and finished with 10 points. Marcus Ruh (Fr.-Green Bay , Wis./Bay Port) and Colin Boone (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) also reached double-digit scoring totals with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Today's game was the first meeting between the two teams all-time.
Up next, Eau Claire will head back to Oshkosh to open conference play against the Titans on Wednesday. Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m.
