Volleyball Finishes 3-1 at Home Tourney

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The 19th-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team finished its' 2009 Blugold Invitational today at the McPhee Physical Education Center with three wins and one loss, with two of its wins coming today against Lawrence University and UW-Stevens Point.

In the Blugolds' first matchup against Lawrence University, Eau Claire won 3-0 with set scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-17. In the second match of the day against UW-Stevens Point, Eau Claire won the first set 25-20, lost the second set 20-25 but won the last two 25-14 and 25-12, respectively.

The Blugolds averaged at least eleven kills per set, chalking up a total of 34 against Lawrence. Eau Claire only committed eight errors while Lawrence more than twice that with a total of 20. The Blugolds also hit .338 to Lawrence's -.024

After leading the Blugolds with digs in the first match of the tournament, Lindsey Smith (Sr.-Maple Lake, Minn.) led Eau Claire yet again in the first match with eleven digs, earning her a spot on the all-tournament team. Amanda Lessner (Jr.-Watertown, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 16 assists against Lawrence.

The Blugolds had a total of 43 kills compared to the 32 kills by the Pointers. Stevens Point committed more errors than the Blugolds, 33-26. The Blugolds also had a higher hitting percentage with a .129, compared to the Pointers -.008.

The Blugolds' Blair Murphy (Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) led the match against the Pointers with 12 kills and 16 digs. Smith, while not getting any kills, had 16 digs as well, marking her third match this weekend with 16 digs.

The Blugolds will take to the court again this Wednesday in St. Paul, Minn. Eau Claire will play Crown College (Minn.) at 5 p.m. and will follow with a match against Northwestern College (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
