WEST SALEM, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished in eighth place out of 29 teams at the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews Invite today at the Maple Grove Country Club.

Wisconsin won the meet with 32 points, while UW-La Crosse came in second with 49. Third place was South Dakota State with 92 points. UW-Eau Claire placed eighth with 238.

Chris Wirtz (Sr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) led the Blugold men today with a 21st place finish and a time of 25:30.6. Next for the Blugold men was Brent Kann (Sr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) with a 29th place finish and a time of 25:42.3.

Josh Wieland (Jr.-Menomonie, Wis.) took 63rd place with a time of 26:12.9 while Tom Breitbach (Jr.-Muskego, Wis.) took 71st place with a time of 26:19.8.

The Eau Claire men will run again next Friday when they host the Lake Wissota Meet in Lake Wissota. Events are set to start at 5 p.m.
