Volleyball Takes Down Stout 3-0

MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team defeated I-94 rival UW-Stout 3-0 at Johnson Fieldhouse tonight.

The 17th-ranked Blugolds, who also handed Stout a 3-0 loss earlier this season, are now 17-4 on the season and 3-2 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. The Blue Devils are 11-11 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Eau Claire has now won 11 straight matches against Stout, dropping only three sets in that time. The Blugolds will face Stout once more in the regular season on Oct. 31 at the UW-River Falls Trick or Treat Classic.

The Blugolds got better as the match went on, winning with scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-17.

As a team, Eau Claire hit .333 while Stout finished with a .189 hitting percentage. The Blugolds committed just seven attack errors as the Blue Devils had 14.

Kristen Moore (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led Eau Claire with nine kills while Emily Zupon (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) added eight. Danielle Lucia (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) finished with a match-best .583 hitting percentage as she recorded seven kills. She also led the match with four block assists.

Blair Murphy (Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) led Eau Claire with 15 digs while Emily Neave (Fr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) picked up a match-high 40 assists.

The Blugolds will be back in action Friday with a match against the UW-Whitewater Warhawks in Whitewater. The match will get underway at 7 p.m.
