Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team made it two wins in a row with a 82-68 win over WIAC opponent UW-Superior this evening at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
Shooting at a 52.5 percent clip from the field, the Blugolds improve their overall record to 11-7 and move to .500 in conference play with a 5-5 mark. Eau Claire hands Superior its eighth conference loss, bringing them to 2-8 in the WIAC and 9-10 overall.
A Yellowjacket layup 15 seconds into the contest gave Superior a 2-0 lead, the only lead the Blugolds would allow for the entire game. Superior managed to keep the game close through the first 10 minutes of the first half. An Amadou Fofana (So.-Appleton, Wis./West) jumper gave Eau Claire a 22-17 lead at the 9:14 mark, starting a run where the Blugolds built a 13 point lead. Superior cut into that lead before the half, and the Blugolds took a 44-39 lead into halftime.
Eau Claire dominated the second half, keeping a double-digit lead throughout and winning the contest by 14 points.
Ryan Shea (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) led the Blugolds tonight with a game-high 26 points. Shea also pulled down five rebounds and dished out five assists. Dan Beyer (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) chipped in with 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Josh Prince (Fr.-Cadott, Wis./Chippewa Falls) dropped in 10 points and grabbed eight boards.
Next up for Eau Claire is a conference show down with sixth-ranked UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks are 15-3 on the year and beat the Blugolds earlier this season by a score of 96-86. The men will be the first game of the doubleheader at 3 p.m., and the women's contest will follow at 5 p.m. in Zorn Arena.
