STEVENS POINT, Wis. - With a 5-2 victory over UW-Whitewater in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Semifinal game at Goerke Park, the UW-Eau Claire soccer team moves on to the tournament championship game set for 1 p.m. Saturday against Stevens Point at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

Stevens Point made it to the championship game with a 4-1 win over UW-La Crosse earlier today. Earlier this season the Blugolds lost 1-0 to Stevens Point in a closely contested battle.

Amy Smith (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) became the Blugolds' all-time leading point and goal-scorer with one goal and one assist on the day. She now has 49 career goals and 125 points, breaking both records held by Emily Mabbitt since 1997. Smith's goal at 69:10 today was also her 21st of the season, which is also a program record for most goals in a season, while she has 48 points which is also a season-high for the Blugolds. Kari Blasczyk has held both of those season records since 2000.

The Blugolds today had to come from behind in the contest as Whitewater found the net first only three minutes into the game. Liz Kooistra (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn.) tied the game up eight minutes later. The Blugolds then recorded three two more goals to take a 3-1 lead into the half. Jessica Millard (Sr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) scored at the 20-minute mark, while Shannon Conlin (Jr.-Reedsburg, Wis.) scored the eventual game-winner with less than 12 minutes to go in the first.

In the second half the Blugolds found the goal twice more, with Kelsey Figg (So.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) recording a goal at 60:30. Smith then scored at 69:10 on a penalty kick to make the score 5-1. With less than 10 minutes to go Whitewater's Mary Donohoo scored her second goal of the game to make the score 5-2.

The Blugolds outshot the Warhawks on the day 18-9, putting 12 shots on-goal. Eight of the Warhawks' nine shots were on-goal. The Blugolds also edged the Warhawks 5-4 in corner kicks.

Allie Rivard (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was the Blugolds' goalkeeper the entire game. She picked up six saves while allowing two goals. Whitewater's Mary Scanlin played the entire 90 minutes in the net, allowing five goals and picking up seven saves.

The Blugolds are now 17-1-3 on the season while the Warhawks ended their season with a 10-8-0 record.
