Men's Cross Country Takes Fourth At WIAC Championship

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished in fourth place today at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held at the Wisconsin River Golf Club.

The tournament consisted of all nine teams from the WIAC. Championship host UW-Stevens Point took first overall on the day with 52 points, followed by UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse with 55 and 62, respectively. On the individual side, UW-Oshkosh's Willy Kaul crossed the line first with a time of 24:16.

The Blugolds finished the race today with a combined total of 117 points and also did well on the individual side with five runners finishing 35th or better on the day. Jules Miller (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./East) set the tone for the Blugolds, taking 10th place overall with a time of 25:04. Crossing the finish line next was Chris Wirtz (Jr.-Weston, Wis./DC Everest) who finished with the overall time of 25:10 in 11th place. Thomas Breitbach (So.-Muskego, Wis.) and Brent Kahn (Jr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) both finished with times of 25:52, taking 30th and 31st place, respectively. Josh Wieland (So.-Menomonie, Wis.) finished 35th overall with a time of 26:01.

The Blugolds did very well with their fourth place finish, improving two spots over last season, and were also awarded with an individual honor. Kevin Hall (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) was named the Max Sparger Scholar Athlete following the completion of the championship.

Up next, The Blugolds will head to the NCAA Regionals in Rock Island, Illinois on Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m.
