Box Score 2 WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team took on two Iowa colleges today at the UW-Whitewater tournament and were successful in both efforts.
In the morning match, the Blugolds defeated Wartburg by scores of 26-24, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-20. Eau Claire then faced Coe College in the following match and completed the three-set sweep, 25-20, 25-18 and 26-24.
The two victories improve the Blugolds' record to 19-10 for the season and send the team home from the tournament with a perfect 4-0 mark.
Against Wartburg, the Blugolds recorded 61 total kills, 57 assists, three service aces and three blocks. In the first two sets, Eau Claire was solid in the kills category, registering kill percentages of .436 and .385. For the entire match, the Blugolds had a .296 kill percentage.
Three Blugolds eclipsed ten kills. With 14 kills, Katie Fox (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) led the way, while Danielle Lucia (So.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) and Abby Freiborg (Sr.-Sacred Heart, Minn./Renville County West) had 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Emily Haese (Sr.-Mishicot, Wis.) was responsible for 51 assists and 10 digs, and Lindsey Smith (Jr.-Maple Lake, Minn.) tallied a team-high 21 digs.
In the match against Coe, the Blugolds' statistics weren't quite as robust as the Wartburg match, but it was still enough to grab the win. Eau Claire accounted for 30 kills, 26 assists, three aces and nine blocks.
Freiborg was the only player in double-digits with 12 kills. Haese picked up 23 of the 26 assists and Smith picked up 19 digs.
The Blugolds will take the week off and return to action next Saturday for two matches in Ashland, Wis. Eau Claire plays Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) at 1 p.m. and Northland College at 3 p.m. It will be the first-ever match versus Bethany Lutheran and the 13th match all-time against Northland. The Blugolds dominate the series, having won 10 of 12 matches.
