WINNECONNE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team completed their season today with a 16th place finish out of 35 teams at the NCAA Midwest Regional, hosted by UW-Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
UW-La Crosse won the event with a team score of 70 points. UW-Stevens Point came in second with 76 points. North Central followed with 118 points. Augustana came in fourth with 152 points, and UW-Platteville rounded out the top five with178 points. UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl ran a 24:01 and placed first individually.
Sophomore Chris Wirtz (Weston, WI/DC Everest) ran the best for the Blugolds. Wirtz placed 63rd overall and ran a 25:37. Following Wirtz was Andy Warren (Jr.-Kenosha, WI/Bradford). Warren ran a 26:12 and placed 90th overall. Tony Carr (Jr.-Menomonie, WI) came in third for the Blugolds with a 26:14 and placed 94th overall. Right behind Carr was Max Renner (So.-Green Bay, WI/East). Renner finished in 96th place and ran a 26:17. Senior Adam Burandt (New Germany, MN/Central) ran a 26:32 and finished in 106th place overall. Mark Sanders (Jr.-Hammond, WI/St. Croix Central) finished in 109th place and ran a 26:36. Ben Pearson (So.-Clinton, WI) rounded out the Blugolds' top five runners in 124th place and ran a 26:49.
This meet is the final meet for seniors Adam Burandt and Bryan Willkom (Sr.-Marshfield, WI). The 2007 season ends with a 54-60-1 record.
The WIAC teams ran very well today. UW-La Crosse finished first, and UW-Stevens Point finished in second. UW- Platteville finished in fifth place. UW-Whitewater finished in ninth place, and UW-Oshkosh followed in 10th place. UW-Stout finished in 14th place, UW-River Falls in 15th place, and the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds in 16th place. UW-Superior rounded out the WIAC teams in 20th place.
UW- La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Meet.
