STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team kept its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference winning streak alive, overcoming a 3-0 halftime deficit to capture a 4-3 overtime victory over UW-Stevens Point here Saturday.

Freshmen scored all four of the Blugold goals with the game winner scored by Gina Christenbury (Pleasant Prairie/Kenosha Tremper) at the 97:13 mark.

After being behind by three goals at intermission, the Blugolds cut the gap in a hurry as both Brittany Burant (Stevens Point) and Haelee Maurer (Appleton/North) scored goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Jamie Schiesel (Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) tied the game at the 66:29 mark. Junior Allison Smith (Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) assisted on three of the four goals with Maurer also credited with one assist along with freshman Kelsey Figg (Little Canada, MN/Roseville).

Junior Allie Rivard (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) earned the victory in goal, playing the final 52:13 of the contest without allowing a goal and stopping three shots. The Blugolds outshot Point, 18-15, for the game.

The Blugolds have won 18 consecutive games against WIAC opponents and have gone 26 games without a loss against conference foes. Stevens Point was the last league team to top the Blugolds with a 3-0 win on October 16, 2004.

This was only the fifth time in the all-time series that Eau Claire has defeated Stevens Point which has won 24 times.

The Pointers, who came into Saturday's Blugold match with an 8-2-1 season record and a No. 4 regional ranking, won 11 of the first 13 WIAC regular season championships and 12 of the first 13 WIAC tournament championships before Eau Claire captured the last two regular season and tournament titles.

The Blugolds, who are ranked No. 7 in the d3Kicks national poll and No. 8 in the NSCAA/adidas Division III poll, remain unbeaten for the season at 10-0-1 and pushed their league record to 4-0 with the victory over Point.

The Blugolds will host Loras College in a non-conference clash at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Bollinger Field before taking on top-ranked and defending national champion Wheaton College Wednesday. That contest will start at 4 p.m. on the Bollinger Field.

Saturday, Stevens Point scored more goals than the Blugold defense had yielded in its previous 10 games. The Blugolds shut out eight of their first 10 opponents and outscored them 23-2 during that span.

The Blugolds have now scored four goals in three of their last four outings.
