FALCON HEIGHTS, MN - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team placed 20th out of 52 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course.
One of the largest cross country races in the country, the Maroon Race features some of the top teams in all of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA. Over 500 runners competed in this year's race.
Concordia (CA), ranked second in the latest NAIA poll, won the event with a score of 46 points. The Blugolds scored 630 points to place 20th on the day.
Leading the way for the Blugolds was Kevin Hall (So.-Green Bay/Preble) who placed 64th in a time of 27:15. Ted Lillie (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN) was the other Blugold runner to place in the top 100, finishing 94th posting a time of 27:36.
Other top Blugold finishers all placed in the top 200 led by Jules Miller (Jr.-Green Bay/East) who finished 122nd in 27:57. Chris Wirtz (Fr.-Weston/D.C. Everest) placed 155th in 28:12 and Adam Wolfe (Jr.-Marshfield) rounded out the scoring for the Blugolds finishing 195th with a time of 28:38.
Up next the Blugolds will host the Blugold Open on Friday, September 29 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. The race is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.
