Men's Cross Country Takes 17th At Jim Drews Invite

WEST SALEM - With 521 points, the UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team took 17th out of 31 schools at UW-La Crosse's Jim Drews Invite.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison took first with 37 points and four of the top ten runners. The runner-up University of Portland (OR) squad collected 41 points as third-place University of Minnesota ran for 78. The hometown Eagles finished fourth on a 181 score while Hamline University (MN) rounded out the top five with 218.

The team in front of the Blugolds, South Dakota State, had 495 points while 18th place St. Olaf College (MN) had 532.

Out of 451 runners, Portland's John Moore took first with a time of 24:09.

The top Blugold finish belonged to Ted Lillie (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN), who was 87th in a season best 26:27. Kevin Hall (So.-Green Bay/Preble) followed him at 92 and 26:31. Jules Miller (Jr.-Green Bay/East) also ran a season best 26:38 to take 97th.

Coming in at 101, Brent Kann (So.-Rice Lake) clocked a 26:41 race. The last point-gainer for the group was Chris Wirtz (Fr.-Weston/DC Everest) and his 144th place 27:24, fastest on the season for him.

Next up on the schedule is the smaller Lake Wissota Tri-Meet hosted by the Blugolds. The meet between Eau Claire, La Crosse and UW-Stout will take place next Friday at 4:00 p.m.
