Box Score 2 MENOMONIE - At the eight-team UW-Stout Tournament, the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team defeated Viterbo University in the first match and overcame Illinois Wesleyan University in the second.
The Blugolds had a couple close games as they prevailed 30-25, 31-29, and 30-16 against the V-Hawks. The Illinois Wesleyan duel came easier to the Blugolds as they won 30-20, 30-15, and 30-27.
Eau Claire hit in the .200's the first match, except for the .519 middle game. The Blugolds came on strong in the second match with totals above .255 in all and reaching .556 in the last game of the day for Eau Claire.
Against Viterbo, Molly Menard (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) claimed 15 kills. Carly Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) had 41 assists. Shanna Berger (Jr.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) had 13 digs for her effort, while Menard contributed 11.
In the second game, Menard had 13 kills to overcome Illinois Wesleyan. Freiborg had 34 assists through all three games. She also led in digs with 12. Jessica Groh (Jr.-Eau Claire/North) had six assisted blocks, while Ashley Danielson (Jr.-Cadott) had five.
Action starts up again tomorrow in the Stout Tournament, with Eau Claire facing Dubuque and Hamline. The times are noon and 2:00 p.m.
