Box Score SUPERIOR - The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team needed just three games to top conference opponent UW-Superior as the Blugolds topped the Yellowjackets 3-0 here tonight at Gate Gymnasium.
The Blugolds improve to 10-3 for the season and 3-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action while the Yellowjackets fall to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in WIAC play.
Eau Claire won all three games decisively, winning by scores of 30-17, 30-18 and 30-24. Becca Carstensen (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) led the Blugolds with 15 kills and a .440 kill percentage. The senior Blugold also recorded seven total blocks.
Jodi Dunbar (So.-Platteville) finished second on the team with nine kills while also recording five defensive digs. Jenny Wolter (Jr.-Osceola) added eight kills and two blocks in the match.
Carly Freiborg (So.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) set up the Blugold hitters all night as she recorded 34 set assists on the night. Molly Menard (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) did a little bit of everything as she finished with five kills, three service aces, three digs, and three block assists.
Eau Claire hit .330 as a team on the night, including a percentage of .609 in the first game of the match.
The team will continue action this weekend when they host the Lisa Siegenthaler Memorial Tournament, beginning Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
