DAVENPORT, Iowa - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team took 11th place out of 30 teams here today at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Credit Island Park.
The Blugolds scored 296 points but did not qualify as a team for national competition nor did the team have any individuals qualify to compete nationally. UW-La Crosse took first place at the meet with 73 points while North Central (IL) took second with 99 points. The University of Chicago was third with 128 while UW-Stevens Point and UW-Platteville rounded out the top five.
Paul Zdroik (Fr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) was the top finisher with a time of 25:01.6, good for 28th place overall in a field of 243 runners. Ethan Kreul (Jr.-Poynette) took second on the team and 43rd overall in a time of 25:17.4.
Ben Schmiege (Sr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) was the third finisher on the team, claiming 62nd overall with a time of 25:37.3. Adam Condit (Sr.-La Crosse/Central) finished just one spot back with a time of 25:39.7, good for 63rd overall.
UW-Oshkosh's John LeRoy claimed the individual title, finishing in a time of 24:23.3. Mark Lalonde of Stevens Point was second overall while Monmouth's Zach Barr finished third.
