Box Score 2 NEW YORK, NY - The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team finished the New York University Invitational with a record of 2-2 after splitting the final day with a 3-0 win over St. John Fisher (NY) and a 0-3 loss to No. 1 NYU.
The Blugolds move to 17-6 on the season while St. John Fisher fell to 12-13. NYU continued its reign as the No. 1 team in the country and improved its record to 26-0 on the season.
Eau Claire made short work of St. John Fisher, winning by scores of 30-23, 30-18 and 30-16. Molly Menard (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) led the Blugolds in kills for the third straight match, recording 14 while also tallying 11 digs. Jenny Wolter (Jr.-Osceola) had 11 kills while Becca Carstensen (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Jodi Dunbar (So.-Platteville) each added 10. Carstensen recorded eight total blocks at the net. Carly Freiborg (So.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) had 41 assists on the match while Shanna Berger (So.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) led the team with 19 digs.
In Eau Claire's battle with NYU, the Blugolds fell 14-30 in game one but made things interesting in game two. The Blugolds hit .514 for the game but still lost 28-30. NYU took the third and final game by a score of 30-25.
Dunbar led the team with nine kills while Menard and Wolter each added eight. Menard again totaled 11 defensive digs, leading the team. Freiborg had 31 assists in the match.
The Blugolds will be back in action this Friday when they host UW-Oshkosh. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
