RIVER FALLS - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team totaled 119 points in a fifth place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, held here today in River Falls.
Paul Zdroik (Fr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) paced the Blugold team, grabbing 17th place overall with a time of 26:21.6. Ben Schmiege (Sr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) took second place on the Eau Claire team and 18th overall with a season-best time of 26:26.6.
Ethan Kreul (Jr.-Poynette) was the third finisher for the Blugolds, claiming 22nd place overall with a time of 26:41.5. The time is the second best on the season for the junior.
Adam Condit (Sr.-La Crosse/Central) finished four places back of Kreul, taking 26th place overall. The senior Blugold finished in a time of 27:08.0. The time is a season best for Condit.
Adam Zamzow (Fr.-Green Bay/Preble) took fifth place on the Blugold roster and 36th overall with a time of 27:26.3. Adam Wolfe (Fr.-Marshfield) and Micah Hernandez (Sr.-Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) finished sixth and seventh for Eau Claire and 44th and 46th overall. Wolfe finished the course in a time of 27:43.3 while Hernandez finished in 27:49.1.
UW-La Crosse took first place at the WIAC Championships with a team total of 36 points. UW-Platteville finished in second place with 82 points while Stevens Point took third with 84 points.
Gary Garcia of UW-Whitewater was the top overall finisher out of 98 runners. Garcia finished in a time of 25:14.6. John LeRoy out of UW-Oshkosh took second in a time of 25:19.6 while Platteville's Tyler Sigle was third with a time of 25:28.0.
The Blugolds will next be in action Saturday, November 13 when they travel to Rock Island, Illinois for the NCAA Division III Regional hosted by Augustana.
