Volleyball Falls To No. 14 La Crosse

LA CROSSE - The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team had a combined team kill percentage of .272 but fell 3-1 to No. 14 UW-La Crosse here today at Mitchell Hall.

Eau Claire falls to 15-4 on the season and 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while the Eagles improve to 14-3 overall and 3-2 in the WIAC.

The first game was extremely close but the Eagles eventually won 30-28. Eau Claire was unable to respond in game two like they had the night before in a 3-2 victory over No. 8 Whitewater. La Crosse won the second game 30-23 before the Blugolds bounced off the mat with a 32-30 victory in game three. Eau Claire was unable to force a fifth game, dropping game four 25-30.

Becca Carstensen (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Jenny Wolter (Jr.-Osceola) led the Blugolds with 16 kills apiece while Molly Menard (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial)added 15. Carstensen added five blocks in a losing effort.

Jodi Dunbar (So.-Platteville) tallied 14 kills in the match while Carly Freiborg (So.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) recorded 64 set assists. Shanna Berger (So.-Baldwin/Baldwin-Woodville) led the Blugolds with 29 digs.

The loss snaps Eau Claire's eight-match winning streak while the Eagles have now won 11 of the last 12 meetings over the Blugolds.

Eau Claire will look to get back in the win column next Friday and Saturday when they travel to New York City to participate in the New York University Tournament. The action begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
