EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire sits in first place after the opening round of the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational (Men), carding a 290 (+6) at Eau Claire Golf & Country Club. The Blugolds' "B" team is tied for second at 295 (+11) alongside Bethel (Minn.).
The stroke-play event is being played on the par-71, 6,855-yard course. UW-Eau Claire's "A" team holds a five-stroke lead heading into the final round, while the "B" team remains in contention.
Michael Markley and Samuel Forslund led the "A" team, each firing a 72 (+1) with three birdies to tie for seventh individually. Karsen Kruse and Spencer Lynch followed with rounds of 73 (+2), each recording three birdies. Luke Taebel rounded out the "A" team with an 81 (+10).
Reis Von Ruden paced the "B" team with an even-par 71, including four birdies, to tie for second individually. Ryan Jamieson followed with a 72 (+1), recording 14 pars and two birdies to tie for seventh. Johnathan Amtmann carded a 75 (+4) with three birdies to tie for 24th, while Bennett Madson finished with a 77 (+6). Cameron Stenzel rounded out the "B" team with a 79 (+8), highlighted by an eagle.
The final round of the Wrigglesworth Blugold Invitational is set to begin on Monday, Sept. 14 at 9:00 a.m.
