EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire played (RV) Carleton College to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday at Simpson Field.
Johanna Thompson scored in the 75th minute off an assist from
Mia Leszko to equalize late for the Blugolds. Carleton held an 18-5 advantage in shots and put 10 on goal, but UW-Eau Claire made seven saves and scored twice in the second half after being held scoreless before halftime.
The Blugolds spent much of the first half defending Carleton pressure and went into halftime down 2-0.
Bella Jones made saves on shots in the sixth and 14th minutes, helping keep the match scoreless through a stretch that included multiple Carleton corners before Katherine Mallon scored at 16:10. UW-Eau Claire also had a team save on a Carleton shot in the 20th minute, but Lola Feurer added another goal at 28:40 to make it 2-0. The home side generated a response later in the half with a corner kick at 33:52 and a shot from
Ellie Moilanen at 34:41, then earned another corner in the final seconds before the break.
UW-Eau Claire erased a 2-0 deficit in the second half, with
Emma Donovan scoring in the 69th minute off
Jayda Swopes' assist and Thompson equalizing at 75:26 with assists from Leszko and
Josie Steeno. Earlier, Jones helped keep the deficit from growing as Carleton opened the half with a run of shots, making saves in the 46th and 52nd minutes. Donovan also forced a save in the 48th minute, added another shot in the 62nd and helped keep the Blugolds involved before finishing the first goal. After Thompson's equalizer, UW-Eau Claire absorbed late Carleton pressure, with Jones saving shots in the 81st and 86th minutes and the defense handling two late corner kicks as the match finished 2-2.
Donovan scored and led the Blugolds with three shots, including two on goal. Thompson recorded an equalizing goal on her lone shot attempt. Jones made seven saves in 90 minutes, including five in the second half.
UW-Eau Claire move to 5-2-4 overall and 0-0-1 in WIAC play. Carleton goes to 7-1-1 overall and 5-0-0 in MIAC play.
