Eleventh ranked Blugolds dominate Pointers on Senior Night

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire secured a commanding 42-4 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, highlighted by Ian Pepple's decisive fall at 3:23 in the 197 lbs weight class. Izzy Balsiger also contributed significantly, earning a 7-3 decision in the opening match.

**UW Eau-Claire Highlights**

Wyatt Unser delivered a dominant performance in the 133-pound weight class, securing a technical fall over George Ahles with a score of 18-2 at 6:09. His victory contributed five points to the Blugolds' commanding lead.

Ty Fink showcased his technical skills at 141 pounds, achieving a technical fall against Maddox Rye with a 19-4 score at 5:22, adding another five points to the team's tally.

Preston Carlisle demonstrated impressive control in the 174-pound bout, achieving a technical fall against Dylan Cariveau with a 15-0 score in 4:22, contributing five points to the team score.

Zak McPhee excelled in the 184-pound class, pinning Easton Hull in 6:37, earning six points for UWEC and furthering their advantage.

Sloan Welch closed the official matches strongly in the heavyweight class, securing a technical fall over Jack Callen with a 16-0 score in just 3:25, earning five points and capping off a decisive team victory.

The Blugolds dominated the dual, winning nine of ten matches. Notable performances included Wyatt Unser at 133 pounds, who achieved a technical fall victory with an 18-2 win in 6:09. Ty Fink followed suit at 141 pounds, earning a technical fall with a 19-4 score in 5:22. Zak McPhee delivered a fall victory at 184 pounds, pinning his opponent in 6:37 to contribute six points to the team's total.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire continued its momentum in exhibition matches. Gavin Rockey claimed a technical fall victory, while Ryan Goddard secured a fall in 2:12. Jayden Sheppard added an 18-7 major decision victory. The depth of the Blugolds was evident, as they capitalized on their opportunities across various weight classes, resulting in a comprehensive team performance. With this win, UW-Eau Claire will look to carry this form into upcoming competitions.

UW-Eau Claire finished the evening celebrating their six seniors: Tiago Bertoldo Zwicky, Carter Friend, Ryan Goddard, Preston Carlisle, Izzy Balsiger, and Jon Harvey.

The Blugolds improve their overall dual record to 8-4 and are now 3-1 in WIAC play. The Pointers fall to 5-8 in overall duals and 1-3 in WIAC competition,

Looking ahead, the Blugolds will continue WIAC competition on Sunday, January 25 as they head to UW-Platteville. First bouts are scheduled for 2 p.m.
