MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team had several players receive All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) honors for the 2024-25 season.
Colin Stein (Sr. – Pewaukee, Wis./Catholic Memorial) was named to the All-WIAC team, while several other Blugolds received honorable mentions.
Stein, a defenseman, anchored the Blugolds' defensive line. He's played in all 30 games so far this season and helped UW-Eau Claire post the best penalty killing percentage in all of NCAA Division III at .905. The Blugolds also rank No. 21 in the country in scoring defense. Stein has one goal and 11 assists for a total of 12 points.
Max Gutjahr (Jr. – Appleton, Wis./Kimberly),
Dayne Hoyord (So. – Scandinavia, Wis./Stevens Point) and
Connor Szmul (Sr. – Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) were all named honorable mentions on the All-WIAC team.
Gutjahr leads the WIAC with a 2.18 goals against average this season. The goalie also posted a WIAC-leading six shutouts on the year and averages 22.17 saves per game.
Hoyord, a forward, has a team-high 18 points this season. He's scored eight goals and collected 10 assists. He registered a pair of multi-assist games this season.
Szmul, a forward, ranks second on the team with 17 points. He has eight goals and nine assists to his credit this winter. He notched a pair of goals in a February 8 game against UW-River Falls.
Max Dronen (Fr. – Moorhead, Minn.) is UW-Eau Claire's representative on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team this season.
The Blugolds are the sole WIAC team competing in this season's NCAA Tournament. They open up the tournament with a first-round game at fifth-ranked Aurora University on Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. in Geneva, Illinois.
