Blugolds' season comes to a close at No. 24 ranked Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday afternoon with a trip to No. 24 ranked UW-Whitewater for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup. Despite out rebounding the opposition and out scoring the Warhawks in the final fame, UWEC fell 65-56 to wrap up the 2024-25 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UW-Whitewater (19-6, 9-5) outscored UW-Eau Claire (8-17, 3-11) 10-7 in the opening quarter. The Warhawks ended the period on a 6-1 run that spanned nearly six minutes.
  • The Blugolds kept things close in the second quarter outscoring the Warhawks in the paint 8-2. Whitewater found their opportunities from the free throw line in the second dropping 7 of 8 free throws from the stripe to extend their lead to five at halftime.
  • Eau Claire found their points in the third quarter off UWW turnovers and second chance points but were outscored 10-2 in the paint as the Blugold deficit reached 11 after three quarters. The Blugolds outscored the Warhawks in the fourth quarter 20-18 but it wasn't enough to overcome the
  • Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. – Eau Claire, Wis./North) led the Blugolds with 14 points in her 27 minutes of play. Anna Koth (Sr. – Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) and Kyla Overskei (Jr. – Maple Grove, Minn.) were close behind with 13 points a piece and 35 minutes played.
  • The Blugolds shot 36% from the floor, compared to 51% for UW-Whitewater. The Blugolds held a 33-28 advantage in rebounds.

The Blugolds finish their season with an 8-17 overall record and a 7th place finish in the conference, one spot outside of the WIAC Tournament.
