EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team continued play in the Commissioner's Cup Tournament on Saturday during game two of the Quarterfinal series against Northland College. The Blugolds lit the lamp four times on home ice to secure the 4-0 victory and advanced to the semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (12-14-1, 8-6) found the game's opening goal less than three minutes into the game as Kyler Grundy (Sr. – Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail Academy) scored his third goal of the season to give the Blugolds a 1-0.
- As UWEC out shot the opposition 45-15, the Blugolds found their first powerplay opportunity in the second period. Eau Claire went one for five on the man advantage.
- After a scoreless second period, the Blugolds found three goals in the first eight minutes of the final frame. Kyler Grundy added to the lead at the 3:04 mark of the third for his fourth goal of the season.
- Jordan Randall (Sr. – Maple Grove, Minn.) and Dayne Hoyord (So. – Scandinavia, Wis.) scored 16 seconds apart to seal the 4-0 win to advance the Blugolds to the semifinal round. Kyle Bauer (So. – Hastings, Minn.) and Kyle Oleksiuk (Sr. – Winnipeg, Manitoba) each had two assists on the night as well.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blugolds advance to the semifinal round of the Commissioner's Cup Tournament and will face UW-Stevens Point on February 28 and March 1 in a two-game series. Both game are scheduled for 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
