Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell to UW-Stout 5-4 in overtime on Friday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds rallied from two separate deficits to force overtime, but couldn't hold off the Blue Devils in the extra period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (9-14-1, 7-7-0) erased a two-goal deficit after the first period and scored a last-second goal to force overtime at the end of the third period. UW-Stout (12-10-2, 5-8-1) scored the game-winner early in overtime.
- The Blue Devils took a lead early in regulation, scoring before four minutes had passed in the opening period. Tyler Herzberg (So. - Germantown, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) answered for the Blugolds a couple of minutes later, converting assists from Jadon Reimer (So. - Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Will Brenner (Fr. - Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial) into a game-tying goal.
- UW-Stout went ahead 2-1 on a power-play goal late in the first period, and made it 3-1 with another goal just a minute later.
- Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) pulled one back for UW-Eau Claire with just over seven minutes left in the second period. Connor Szmul (Sr. - Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) assisted.
- Randall tied the game with a power-play goal at the 13:13 mark of the third period off assists from Leo Bacallao (Jr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Eli Reimer (So. - Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge).
- UW-Stout retook the lead with a goal with 5:24 left in regulation.
- Szmul forced overtime with a dramatic goal with one second left on the clock in the third period. It came off assists from Jadon Reimer and Colin Stein (Sr. - Pewaukee, Wis./Catholic Memorial).
- UW-Stout's winner came after 2:40 had elapsed in overtime.
- Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) tallied 25 saves for UW-Eau Claire.

The series resumes on Saturday, February 15 at Hobbs Ice Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m. It will be the Blugolds' regular-season finale.
