Blugolds sweep Warhawks in final WIAC dual

WHITEWATER, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept their final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) duals of the season with a pair of wins over UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The Blugold women won 234-59, while the men won 211.5-77.5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Kiara Bissen (Sr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Grace Schnabl (Jr. - New Berlin, Wis./Brookfield Central) helped lead the charge for the women's team, winning three events apiece. Bissen prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay. Schnabl won the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.
  • Ella Josephs (So. - Plymouth, Wis.) swept the one- and three-meter diving competitions. She achieved an NCAA Diving Zones cut on the one-meter board with a score of 266.40.
  • Molly Sheehan (Sr. - Austin, Minn.) won the 100-yard breaststroke individually, and also helped the Blugolds' 200-yard freestyle relay prevail. Sydney McGuine (Sr. - Huntley, Ill.) won the 100-yard backstroke and was part of a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Emma Vogen (So. - Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) won the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle. Melanie Witikko (Fr. - Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) won the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard medley relay.
  • On the men's side, Ben Keller (Sr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) and Kadin Denner (Sr. - Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) were part of three event victories each. Keller won the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard medley relay. Denner prevailed in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard IM and 200-yard breaststroke.
  • Kaden Zink (So. - Watertown, S.D.) swept the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle. Drew Testin (So. - Mequon, Wis./Homestead) won the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle.
  • Blake Wallen (So. - Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) swept the one- and three-meter diving competitions.
  • Several Blugolds won single events in both the men's and women's meets.

UP NEXT

The Blugolds will compete at the University of Minnesota First Chance Meet on February 7-8 in Minneapolis. The divers will compete at the UIC Diving Invite on February 8.
