Nine Blugolds place in the top-5 at the MSOE Invite

MILWAUKEE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team was back in action on Saturday as they competed at the MSOE Invite. Out of 17 teams competing, the Blugolds placed fourth overall with nine student-athletes placing fifth or better.

Gavin Hanrahan and was the runner up in the 133 weight class. Hanrahan cruised to the semifinals with two pinfalls and a 5-2 decision. In the semis, Hanrahan defeated Truman Folkers from Cornell College in a tiebreaker -1, 11-4. In the finals, Hanrahan fell in a close battle with St. John's Connor Krueger by a 4-2 decision. 

Jackson Peak placed third overall in the 197 division. Peak tallied a pinfall and a 11-0 major decision to earn a sport in the semifinals. In the semis, Peak fell in a close contested match to Augsburg's Ethan Swenson by a 10-6 decision. In the third place match, Peak pinned Carthage College's Elvis Muja in 1:32 to earn a third place finish. 

Finn Bloomquist earned a third place finish after recording a pinfall, a 7-6 decision, and a 17-4 major decision to make it to the semifinals. In the semis, Bloomquist fell to Chicago's Maksim Mukhamedaliyev by major decision. Bloomquist recorded a 13-7 and a 6-5 decision to earn third overall in the 149 weight class.

Parker Kamm, Blakelee Bastien, Brady Brewick, and Ben Peterson all took fourth place in their respective divisions. Kamm earned fourth overall with two tech falls and two decision wins before falling in the third place match by a 16-4 major decision. Bastien tallied two decisions, a tech fall, and a pinfall to make it ot the third place round. Bastien fell in the third place round by a close 6-5 decision to Bloomquist. Brady Brewick recorded two pinfalls and a sudden victory, making it to the third place match. Brewick fell by 8-3 decision to place fourth in the 165 weight class. Ben Peterson tallied two tech falls and a 19-7 major decision to earn a spot in the third place game. Peterson fell by a 13-11 decision to Augburg's Apollo Ashby to place fourth overall in the 174 division. 

Calvin Singewald and Jayden Sheppard earned fifth place finishes as Singewald took fifth with a 14-2 major decision and Sheppard placed fifth with a medical forfeit.

The Blugolds will be back in action on Wednesday, December 10 for WIAC competition. UWEC will travel will travel to UW-La Crosse for a 7 p.m. start.
