Women's Basketball finds 18 different scorers during Blugolds' rout of Martin Luther

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team defeated Martin Luther College, 94-43, at the Sonnentag Event Center, maintaining control throughout the matchup and posting the teams' highest point total since 2022, the team's largest margin of victory since 2019, and the second largest margin of victory in 19 years. UW-Eau Claire recorded 57 rebounds, including 23 on the offensive end, and forced 24 turnovers, converting them into 25 points. The team also dominated in the paint, scoring 50 points, and received significant contributions from the bench with 56 points and 18 different Blugolds recording a point.

UW-Eau Claire took an early lead with Britta DeMar scoring two layups in the first minute and a half, setting the tone for a dominant first quarter. Reanna Hutchinson contributed defensively with a key steal that led to a fast-break layup by DeMar, extending the advantage. Delaney Nyenhuis added to the lead with two successful free throws following a foul at 6:46. Th Knights managed to score their first points at 8:35, but the Blugolds responded with a strong defensive effort, including eight steals, and extended their lead to 21-4 by the quarter's end.

UWEC controlled the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and fast breaks to outpace Martin Luther. Reanna Hutchinson contributed significantly with a fast-break layup at 9:37, assisted by Britta DeMar. Martin Luther attempted to chip away at the deficit with a three-pointer at 9:06 and converting a free throw at 6:54. However, the Blugolds' offensive pressure remained steady, with Paige Keller hitting a crucial three-pointer at 4:26, pushing their lead further. UWEC ended the quarter with a 23-16 advantage, maintaining their momentum heading into the next period.

The Blugolds dominated the third quarter, outscoring Martin Luther 27-8. Britta DeMar opened the period with a three-pointer just 13 seconds in, assisted by Olivia Witkowski, setting the tone for the home team's offensive surge. Kyla Overskei contributed significantly with a three-pointer at 7:25, extending the lead to 52-23. Emma Donovan added back-to-back layups, with Macie Miller assisting on both, pushing the score to 60-26. The Knights closed out the quarter with a layup with 13 seconds left, bringing the score to 71-28, spotlighting UW-Eau Claire's strong performance.

In the fourth quarter, UW-Eau Claire maintained their lead with a strong performance, outscoring Martin Luther 23-15. Emily Vogel scored early with a layup at 9:46 to set the tone. Martin Luther responded with back-to-back three-pointers, contributing to the team's effort to close the gap. However, Abby Bloch's offensive prowess was evident with multiple offensive rebounds and key points, including a tip-in at 1:09. The Blugolds' defense was also formidable, with Marin Wilson and Sydney Subke each recording steals, helping to seal a decisive 94-43 victory.

Kyla Overskei led the team with 12 points, making four 3-pointers and grabbing seven rebounds. Karsyn Bauman contributed seven points and three steals while adding three assists. Delaney Nyenhuis collected eight rebounds and recorded three steals. Emma Donovan added six points and registered two steals.

UWEC is now 7-1 overall following their decisive victory. Martin Luther holds a 4-3 overall record.

In their next game, the Blugolds will travel to face Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, Dec. 13. The matchup is set for 3 p.m. at Gus Young Court in St. Peter, Minnesota.
