COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team competed at the North Country Invite hosted by St. John's (Minn.) on Sunday at Sexton Arena.
Ryan Goddard (Jr. - Oswego, Ill.) earned the first individual tournament title of his career with a first-place finish in the Silver Division at 133 pounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wrestling in round robin action, Goddard only had to win one match to clinch the title. He prevailed over St. John's' Erick Solano by pin in 6:09 in the second round, and after a double forfeit in the third round, he placed first.
- Five Blugolds earned second-place finishes in their respective weight classes in the Gold Division: Travis Moelter (So. - River Falls, Wis.) at 133 pounds, Colton Sund (Sr. - Prior Lake, Minn.) at 157, Brady Brewick (Fr. - Kingston, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) at 165, Tristan Drier (So. - Cadott, Wis.) at 174 and Zak McPhee (Fr. - Duluth, Minn./Proctor) at 184.
- Multiple Blugolds finished third in their weight classes: Ty Fink (Fr. - Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville) at 149 in the Gold Division, Jan Hernandez-Soto (Sr. - Minneapolis, Minn./Patrick Henry) at 165 Gold, Brandon Meister (So. - Spooner, Wis.) at 174 Gold and Tiago Bertoldo Zwicky (Jr. - Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) at 133 Silver.
- There were no team scores kept at the tournament.
