EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to No. 15 UW-Whitewater 65-54 on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blugolds led the Warhawks at halftime, but a UW-Whitewater rally in the second half sank their chances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (6-10, 1-4) got out to a 26-24 lead by halftime after a solid first half. An even first quarter saw the Warhawks lead 14-13 at the first break.
- The Blugolds started the second quarter with a 7-0 run to get ahead by six with five and a half minutes left until halftime. Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) hit back-to-back 3-pointers to end the first half, sending the Blugolds to the locker room with a 26-24 lead.
- The Warhawks (12-4, 2-3) went on a 10-2 run midway through the third quarter to get ahead for good. The Blugolds trailed 44-39 at the end of the third.
- UW-Eau Claire pulled within three of the lead with four minutes left, but that was as close as they got. The Warhawks ended the game on 13-5 run.
- Overskei finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Jessilyn Ernst (So. - Pardeeville, Wis.) scored 11 points apiece. Hutchinson had seven rebounds.
- The Blugolds shot 30% from the field while the Warhawks shot at a 39% clip.
