STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team picked up its sixth consecutive dual victory with a 34-11 triumph over UW-Stevens Point on Thursday at Berg Gym. The fifth-ranked Blugolds secured six bonus-point victories in a straightforward Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) win over the Pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Blugolds (12-1, 3-1) won the first five matches of the dual and never looked back. Each of those matches, including a forfeit at 149 pounds, produced bonus points for UW-Eau Claire.
• Sixth-ranked Izzy Balsiger (Jr. - Chippewa Falls) started the dual off with a 19-4 technical fall at 125 pounds. Calvin Singewald (Fr. - Cannon Falls, Minn.) followed with a pin at 133 pounds, and Jayden Sheppard (So. - Neenah, Wis.) added a major decision at 141. The Pointers forfeited at 149 before Landon Church (So. - Jordan, Minn./Scott West) secured a pin at 157 pounds.
• UW-Stevens Point (7-5, 2-2) got on the board with a win at 165 pounds. The Blugolds countered with a victory from No. 1 Jared Stricker (Sr. - High Bridge, Wis./Ashland) at 174 pounds. He bested 13th-ranked Carson Trotzer by 11-1 major decision.
• The Pointers won at 184 and 197 before Sloan Welch (So. - Arpin, Wis./Auburndale) wrapped up the dual with a victory by 9-2 decision at 285 pounds.
• The victory was the Blugolds' sixth consecutive in their series with UW-Stevens Point.

UP NEXT

The Blugolds will test themselves against NCAA Division II competition when they compete at the Southwest Minnesota State Duals on Saturday, January 18. UW-Eau Claire will wrestle Fort Hays State, Upper Iowa, Minot State and Southwest Minnesota State. The action begins at 12 p.m.
